The 4 days gorillas and Dian Fossey is a short adventure to Volcanoes National Park, suitable for primate lovers and those interested in hiking. This Rwanda safari involves a gorilla trek and a golden monkey trek in Volcanoes National Park and a hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. It will begin with a city tour in Kigali to the Rwanda art museum and the Kigali genocide memorial, and end with a transfer back to Kigali airport.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali airport and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
In the morning on day 1 of the 4 days gorillas and Dian Fossey, you will link up with a representative guide from Chopper Tour and Travel at Kigali Airport. You will interact after exchanging greetings. You will get the details about the safari from the guide, and then you will begin with the first activity as per the itinerary. You will have a visit to the Rwanda Art Museum in Kigali. You will get the chance to see the art pieces that are kept at this place. The Rwandese artists design them in a way that brings out the traditions, culture and history of Rwanda. You will, after seeing the artwork at this place, head to one of the hotels in Kigali and have lunch.
The guide will transfer you from the hotel after lunch, and you will head to the Kigali genocide memorial. You will meet the guides who will give you details about the events of the 1994 Rwanda genocide and also tell you the significance of the Kigali genocide memorial. You will see several remains kept at this place that managed to remain after the genocide. You will then start the journey to Volcanoes National Park. You will arrive in the evening, check into a hotel and have dinner. You will then have your night’s rest.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village
Early in the morning, you will be served breakfast, and then you will be briefed at the park headquarters. You will get the information on how to behave during the gorilla trek in the forest. You will then set off with an armed ranger guide. You will trek through the forest searching for the gorillas, and once you spot them, you will spend 1 hour with them. Depending on their location in the forest, finding them may take about 30 minutes to 7 hours. After having some time with them in their natural habitat and making your observation about them, you will get to the lodge for lunch.
When lunch is done, you will relax, and then the guide will pick you up from the lodge and take you to Iby’iwacu cultural village for a cultural experience. You will be able to interact with the locals that you will meet there. You will get to visit various projects in this village and also learn about the traditions, culture and history of the Rwandese. You will learn a lot about the culture of Rwanda while at Iby’iwacu cultural view village, and then the guide will drive you back to the lodge. You will have dinner at the lodge and after go to bed for your night’s rest.

Day 3: Hike to Dian Fossey Tomb
Early in the morning on day 3 of the 4 days gorilla and Dian Fossey tour, you will be served breakfast at the lodge, and then the guide will take you to the park headquarters for a briefing about the hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. You will get a guide to escort and then you will begin the hike. You will come across several birds and mammals as you hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. You will take about 1 and a half hours while on a hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. You will be able to see the Tomb of Dian Fossey and see the grave of her favourite gorilla, “Digi6”. You will also get details about the gorillas from the guides and from the research they have. You will then head back to the lodge, and you will have lunch.
You will rest at the lodge after having lunch. In the late evening, you will have dinner, and then you will go to bed.

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking and transfer back to Kigali airport
Early in the morning on day 4 of the 4 days gorilla and Dian Fossey, you will have breakfast, and then you will head to the park headquarters with a guide. You will be briefed by the park wardens on how to carry out a golden monkey trek. You will receive a guide to escort you to the park headquarters, and then you will begin the trek. You will take about 30 minutes to 4 hours to find the golden monkeys, depending on where they are located. You will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat, and you will enjoy their playfulness. You will notice how they feed, play, breastfeed and many more. When you are done taking pictures and videos of them, the guide will take you back to the lodge for lunch. You will then check out of the lodge after lunch.
You will meet with a driver guide will drive you back to Kigali. The journey will take approximately 2 hours the guide will drop you at Kigali Airport.
