A 5 days Great Migration and gorilla trekking safari offers you a unique and rewarding East Africa wildlife safari experience that includes trekking the mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda through Kigali, Rwanda, and then witnessing the spectacular Great Migration in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. The combined safari offers you the opportunity to explore two different safari destinations and then be rewarded with different safari experiences that offer you unforgettable safari memories.
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali with Kigali City Tour and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
At around 7 am, your safari guide from Chopper Tour and Travel will pick you up from Kigali International Airport; he will welcome you and brief you about the safari. You will have a short Kigali city tour, like visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre to learn about the tragedy that left over 800,000 innocent people dead and many more displaced. You will visit other areas like the craft shops, Kimironko Market, and others and later enjoy lunch.
After lunch, you will cross Rwanda’s border to Uganda through the Gatuna border and then head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes you 3 to 4 hours, and then you arrive in the evening hours for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – Transfer to Kigali.
Wake up early in the morning at around 6:30 am and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, you will meet your Uganda safari guide at 7:30 am and transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing about the rules and regulations for gorilla trekking. Here you will join other trekkers and then receive an important briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. They will explain the rules and regulations for gorilla trekking and then assign you to a gorilla family group when you are typically with 8 trekkers per group.
At 8:30 am, you will be accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers and then go on your gorilla trekking adventure. Gorilla trekking can last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once the gorilla family is located, you will be allowed one hour of observation. This hour is impressive, watching the gorillas feeding, playing, grooming, interacting, and so on; taking pictures and recording videos with a low-flash or no-flash camera while maintaining a respectful distance of 7 to 10 metres as you are following all the instructions from your guides.
After one hour, you will trek back out of the forest to the starting point and receive the gorilla trekking certificates at the park headquarters, and then return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will check out and then transfer back to Kigali for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Pick up from Nairobi and transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve.
After breakfast at your hotel, check out and then you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport to take a flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival in Nairobi, your Kenya safari guide will welcome you and then brief you about the safari.
After the briefing, you will start on your journey to Masai Mara, which is the famous and well-known park in Kenya; along the way, you will be impressed by the beautiful landscapes while enjoying the scenic drive. Upon arrival, enjoy your en route game-viewing experience as you head to your lodge. Check into your lodge for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve.
After breakfast, meet your safari guide and then enter the reserve for the morning game drive experience in the open plains of the reserve to spot the Big Five mammals (buffaloes, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinos) along with other animal species like giraffes, elands, warthogs, zebras, cheetahs, and many others along with the different bird species. Later you will enjoy the picnic lunch.
After lunch, enter the reserve for another game viewing experience; depending on the season, from July to October you will experience the Mara River to watch the annual great migration, where several wildebeest, zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles can cross the Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. This is a wonderful spectacle that gives you unforgettable safari memories. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Masai Mara – Transfer to Nairobi.
After breakfast, check out from your lodge and then transfer to Nairobi Airport for your departure flight. When you arrive in Nairobi, you will enjoy your en-route lunch. That will bring your safari to an end of 5 Days Great Migration and gorilla trekking safari.
