5 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari | Marangu Route Tour | Tanzania Hiking Tour.
A 5 days Mount Kilimanjaro hiking safari is a rewarding safari experience that takes you five days while hiking and experiencing the tallest mountain in Africa, which is Mount Kilimanjaro. During the hike, you will be fascinated by the different attractions of the mountain that will offer you unforgettable Tanzania safari memories for your entire life.
Day 1: Pick up then transfer to Mandara Hut (2740 m) – Horombo Hut (3700 m) (9000 ft to 12,100 ft).
After breakfast, you will be transferred for the briefing. This is where you will drive to the Marangu village and then proceed to Kilimanjaro National Park. It takes about 45 minutes to register at the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority offices and then start this Tanzania hiking safari. This is where you will walk through the rainforest to the Mandara hut that is located at 9000 ft/2740 m. There is a side trip to Maundi Crater that is a good way to see the surroundings, including northern Tanzania. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Marangu Gate (1700 m) – Mandara Hut (2740 m) – (5500 ft to 9000 ft).
After breakfast in the morning, you will start trekking to Horombo Hut. After an hour, you will leave the glades for the rainforest and then start to follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo Hut. This is where you will view the Kibo summit and Mawenzi, which are both amazing and shining on clear days. And on some days, you will witness the giant lobelias that are found on your way. Horombo Hut is a point where most climbers use it for acclimatisation, where you can spend an extra day. That is, spending an extra day gives a greater chance of a successful summit on the roof of Africa.
Day 3: Horombo Hut (3700 m) – Kibo Hut (4700 m) (12,100 ft to 14,400 ft).
Get up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. You will start on the trek that takes you to the last watering point and walk onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. You will witness the vegetation of the heartland, but then it disappears into the desert-like structure. At Kibo, you will enjoy dinner, take a nap, and then, in the middle of the night, proceed to transfer to the summit.
Day 4: Kibo Hut (4,750m/15,580ft) to summit (5,895m/19,340ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft).
Get up at midnight, then go for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. This hike on a Tanzania safari requires a 5-hour hike to Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. This is mostly known as the easiest of the three crater ascent paths; it is still extremely difficult. The first main rest stop is William’s Point, which is located at 5000 metres and then takes you about a 2-hour hike to Kibo Hut. Proceed for 30 minutes before beginning the rocky switchbacks that will continue to Gilman’s Point (5681 metres).
The hike from Gilman’s to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and, as far as hikes go, not very difficult. The altitude, however, makes the hike long and tiring. The crater rim takes you about 2 hours. On the way down from the summit, you will see all the wonderful views you could not see on the way up. Stop for a short break and snacks at Kibo Hut before continuing to Horombo Hut. Later, you will arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon and enjoy your last night on the mountain.
Day 5: Horombo Hut (3720 m/12,200 ft) to Marangu Gate (1800 m/5905 ft).
After breakfast, you will complete your trek with a descent to Marangu Gate. Your Tanzania safari vehicle will be waiting for you to take you back to Kilimanjaro or Arusha airport in time for your onwards flight. Alternatively, continue to your booked hotel overnight.
