A 5 days Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti Migration safari is the perfect safari for travellers intending to witness the Serengeti Great Migration, which is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. During the safari, you will enjoy the wonderful views of the plains of the Serengeti dotted with large numbers of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles. This Tanzania safari also takes you to another safari destination, which is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which offers you endless safari memories.
Day 1: Arusha-Ngorongoro Crater.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha or the airport and transferred to the Ngorongoro Crater for a tour. Upon arrival, you will descend 2000 ft into the crater for the tour. The Ngorongoro Crater is known as the 8th natural wonder, and during the safari you will explore it to spot various wildlife species, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, wildebeests and many bird species.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is home to the Ngorongoro Crater, which was formed about 2.5 million years ago as a result of a volcanic mountain sinking due to inactivity and was initially thought to be higher than Tanzania’s famous Kilimanjaro. In the evening, you will head back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Ngorongoro-Serengeti National Park.
After breakfast, check out with your packed lunch and then transfer to North Serengeti National Park, which is the part for viewing the great migration; along the way, you will have the perfect view. Serengeti National Park is known for being the home of large numbers of resident wildlife, including the Big Five mammals: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos.
The park is also known for hosting the largest population of lions in Africa, and this is caused by the large numbers of prey species; over 3000 lions are living in the Serengeti ecosystem. Upon arrival, enjoy an en-route game drive, then head to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3-4: Full days in North Mara, Serengeti National Park.
After breakfast, depart with your packed lunch for a full game drive in the North Mara region of Serengeti National Park, following the migrating herds.
In these two days, you will experience the plains of the North Mara, which come to life and then turn into a wildlife paradise from August to October. You will visit the Mara River, where you will see the massive herds crossing the crocodile-infested river. It is very rare to see the herds cross the Mara River north on one day and then back south a few days later.
River crossings at Kagatende start to occur every day in August as the large herd settles into the area; from August to October, game viewing is at its wonderful best with the river crossings much more common every day. There is no distinct movement of the herds, as they tend to cross back and forth over the river after the rains and fresh grasses. Later, transfer to your lodge for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Departure.
After breakfast, you will pick up your packed lunch, then check out from your lodge, meet your Tanzania safari guide, and then depart with an en route morning game drive as you exit the park and drive to Arusha. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home, bringing your 5 days Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti Migration safari to an end.
