Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Uganda : Bwindi impenetrable national park is situated on about 321 square kilometers in south western Uganda on the edge of the Albertine rift. It stretches to three districts of Uganda namely Kabale, Kisoro and Kanungu and it is popular to the world for being a home to about half of the remaining mountain gorillas population all over the world. Bwindi impenetrable national park is also a home to over 350 bird species and 120 mammal species.

ATTRACTIONS IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

  • Mountain gorillas

Bwindi impenetrable national park is a haven to over 400 gorillas and these gorilla stay in four sectors of the park which include nkuringo sector, rushaga sector, ruhija sector and buhoma sector. Some if the gorilla families in the park are the shongi gorilla family, busingye gorilla family, mishaya gorilla family, bikingi gorilla family, kutu gorilla family among others.

  • Birds

Bwindi impenetrable national park harbors about 350 bird species in different sectors of the park. This park is one of the best birding destinations in Uganda and some of the bird species ii shelters include black bee eater, black billed turaco, bush shrike, regal sunbird, handsome spur fowl, Ruwenzori nightjar, crowned hornbill, African green pigeon among others.

  • Animals

Bwindi impenetrable national park is a home to over 120 mammal species of which these include primates like the olive baboons, blue monkey, red-tailed monkeys, chimpanzees, mountain gorillas and other animals like the elephants, giraffes, lions, sitatunga, potto, bush pig, giant forest hog among others.

  • Forest trails

Bwindi impenetrable national park has several trails that tourists use to get to different destinations in the park and some of these trails include kashasha trail, ivy river trail, munyanga river trail, mubwindi swamp trail, muzabajiro loop trail among others. These trails offer amazing views to visitors who come to visit

  • Buhoma sector

Buhoma sector is situated in the northern part of Bwindi impenetrable national park and is one of the popular places in the park where gorilla trekking in carried out since it harbors about 5 habituated gorilla families.

ACTIVITIES IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

  • Gorilla habituation

Habituated gorilla families are found in four sectors of Bwindi impenetrable national park namely: buhoma sector, nkuringo sector, rushaga sector and ruhija sector. Some of the gorilla habituated families include shongi gorilla family, habinyanja gorilla family, mubare gorilla family, rushegura gorilla family, mishaya gorilla family, bikingi gorilla family among others. 4 hours is the time given to visitors to spend with these gorilla during gorilla habituation.

  • Gorilla trekking

Bwindi impenetrable national park is a haven to over 400 gorillas. Uganda Gorilla trekking is done through out the year though the best time to visit bwindi impenetrable national park for gorilla trekking is in the dry season in the months of June, July, August, December, January and February. This activity takes about 2 to 7 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and 8 people are permitted to meet a particular gorilla family.

  • Mountain biking

Mountain biking in bwindi impenetrable national park takes about 6 to 7 hours and it takes place at the trail from buhoma to ivy river that is about 13km. While mountain biking, visitors can spot animals like bushbucks, elephants, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, golden cats, civet, duikers bush pigs and many more.

  • Forest walks

Forest walks are done in trails of Bwindi impenetrable national park and these trails include the bamboo trail, Ivy river trail, habinyanja trail, kashasha river trail muzabajiro loop trail, rushura hill trail and many more. Forest walks are best done in the dry season in the months of June, July, August, September, December, January and February. During the dry season, trails in the park are easily accessible.

  • Visit to lake Mutanda

Lake Mutanda is situated next to Bwindi impenetrable national park in Kisoro district in Uganda’s south western part. Boat launches is the major activity carried out at this lake at it offers tourists with the opportunity to spot various bird species like sunbirds, malachite kingfisher, great cormorants, hadada ibis, pelicans, kites among others.

  • Batwa cultural experience

The batwa cultural experience is done outside bwindi impenetrable national park. During the batwa cultural experience, visitors get the chance to how the batwa manage their lives plus their cultures and traditions.

Bird watching is carried out through out the year but the wet season is the best to handle this activity. This park is a home to over 350 bird species. Birding is mainly done in mubwindi swamp trail, bamboo zone in ruhija and Buhoma waterfall trail.

  • Buhoma community visits

Visits to Buhoma community are carried out by tourists during their visit to bwindi impenetrable national park. In this community, visitors interact with the locals in this area which grants them the chance to know about the traditions and culture of the people living in Buhoma community. This visit is done for about 3 hours.

  • Wildlife viewing

Bwindi impenetrable national park is a home to over 120 mammal species and some of these mammals include bush pigs, giant forest hog, sitatunga, buffaloes, elephants, blue monkey, chimpanzees and many more. Wildlife viewing is carried out through out the year in bwindi impenetrable national park.

BEST TIME TO VISIT BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Bwindi impenetrable national park can be visited by tourists at any time of the year but the best time to visit Bwindi impenetrable national park is during the dry season in the months of June, July, August, September, December, January and February. During this season, the trails in the park are dry which enables tourists to access all the corners of the park with a lot of ease.
