Kyanika Border

The official land border crossing between Rwanda and Uganda is Kyanika, also called Cyanika on the Rwandan side. It is in the Kisoro area in southwest Uganda. The Kyanika Town Council, a component of the Kisoro district local administration system, serves as the administrative division of the Kyanika boundary. The Burera District in the northern region of Rwanda is where the Cyanika border is situated.

An important factor contributing to the expansion of gorilla tourism in the Kisoro region is the Kyanika border crossing. The Kyanika border crossing receives more tourists and individual travelers than the Katuna border station, although it is less crowded. Kyanika links two of East Africa’s most important tourist destinations.

Visitors can hike mountain gorillas in Bwindi National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda via Kyanika border using Kigali airport in Rwanda. Both Lake Chahafi and Lake Mutanda, which is popular for kayaking, are a short distance from Kyanika border.

Likewise, tourists can cross the Kyanika border from Uganda to Rwanda to visit the Volcanoes National Park. Kyanika is about a one-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park. Ugandan visitors cross the Kyanika border to hike gorillas or summit Mount Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Bunagana border is an alternate route to Virunga National Park.
